Learning and teaching go hand-in-hand.

Our story

I remember as I child I used to go into my mother’s garden and find all the bees I could, just to give them a little pet while they visited the California poppies…

I first learned that keeping honey bees was a thing that one could do from my middle school science teacher, and from that moment on, I was hooked! I first became a high school biology teacher, then I became a beekeeper! My first ever hive experience was in my brother’s backyard apiary. I was nervous, but so excited to lean in and see for myself what I had spent so much time learning from the books.

I was incredibly lucky to apprentice for two years with my master beekeeper mentor. Together we managed hives, extracted honey, taught beekeeping classes, visited schools, and (my personal favorite) gave hive tours for guests. We could always tell who loved the bees and the work; those who loved them would lean in for a closer look! Combined with my hands-on apprenticeship, I have continued my education by earning my journeyman beekeeping certificate from the University of Montana, and completed a seminar on the sensory analysis of honey.

I am very happy to have settled in Tuolumne County, California with my husband, kids, dogs, and of course my bees! I hope you will lean in with me to experience the joy and wonder of honey and honey bees!
